Work assignments
Asma started as a Social Science teacher at Maktab Rendah Sains, MARA and continued as a Curriculum Development specialist before moving to Esso Malaysia in 1980 as a human resource development specialist. She retired from corporate work in 2003 and has been active in training for both local and foreign companies, academic teaching at several local and foreign based universities and facilitating groups for different voluntary organizations.
Her list of clients included Petronas, Shell, Philip Morris, TESCO, Texas Instruments, German Malaysian Institute, Bursa Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Bangi academic staff, LPPKN – Ministry of Women and Family Devt, UMNO Wanita, Maybank, PLUS, Ranhill, MAS, Ministry of Higher Education to name a few.
Experience, Appointments and Awards
She has been invited to make presentations related to culture and management in USA, Canada, France, Denmark, Sweden, Singapore, Thailand, China, and speaks two languages: English and Malay. She served as a member on the Board for Malaysian American Cultural Educational Exchange (MACEE), Panel on Education and Development Committee for National Unity and Integration, Department of National Unity, Malaysia, National Council for women in Development (NACIWID), ASLI’s Center for Public Policy Studies, Joint Industry-Academic Council for KANITA, in Universiti Sains, Penang, JUST International, Adjunct Professor at the Department of Social and Human Development for Universiti Utara Malaysia, Fulbright Alumni Association of Malaysia, and is now a member of Sisters In Islam.
In 1994 Asma was awarded a Fulbright Professional Exchange scholarship to study the influence of culture on management and was invited to share her research, work and experience with managers and graduate students at several universities in the United States and Canada.
She also co-wrote and co-directed “Expat Comes to Town” and “The Expat Files” for Malaysian theatre in 1998 which featured some of her cross cultural encounters on stage!
